2007 Black Corvette (NC17- No Children Under 17)
WARNING: THE FOLLOWING POST MAY CONTAIN SUGGESTIVE WORDINGS AND IMAGERY NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 17. IF THIS APPLIES TO YOU, THEN PLEASE STOP NOW AND SEEK PERMISSION FROM YOUR PARENTS BEFORE CONTINUING......
This is the future home of the current 2007 Corvette I'm working on. However, I thought I'd add a little teaser "Strip Teaser" of some of the hottest pix from the wash process..with Ashley getting down and "dirty" to clean the Vette...yes they are intentionally small....for now.
For those that want to see the car, here's some pix.
Can't leave out this little "teaser" shot either, lol.
Now some background info on this detail. The owner called me up after having tried to get in contact me for a long time. Apparently he had heard about me from a past customer but wasn't able to get my contact info, and then when he heard I was all the way out in Placentia (he lives on the Westside), he was having second thoughts. But we talked on the phone, had a good conversation, and I think he felt pretty comfortable after that. During my initial assessment over the phone--I asked him how the condition of the paint was, and he told me that it was excellent considering it only had 3,000 miles and was a weekend car and that he had been out of commission for 6 months due to a motorcycle accident. I told him that I tend to see things that most don't, and would reserve judgement until actually seeing it.
The whole car was covered in swirls. But the owner took me around the car pointing out scratches and water spots on the paint--not even acknowledging the swirls. So after he's done, I pull him aside and ask him if he really wants my honest opinion on the paint, and he says "Yes". I take him around the front of the car, under full sunlight...do you see that? He replies "Oh the swirls? They've been on there since day 1, I didn't think anything could be done with them". I reply "Glad that you can see them, they will be gone when I'm done, and I can guarantee you a 'Better than New' finish."
So not wanting to work in the heat, and wanting to let the Vette cool down (it was HOT), I opted to leave it in the shop until early evening where I would wash, clay, and prep the paint. Course Ashley added a little twist to the car washing process too. We also took a number of high magnification pictures of various paint defects. I used distilled white vinegar to remove the water spots on the paint, blue painters tape to protect the high points, and emblems and plastic bits, Meguiar's APC Plus to clean the scuffs off the interior door panels, and a plastic drop cloth to protect the soft convertible top from splatter as I polish.
More pix and info coming.....stay tuned!

Hey richard
How did you use the distilled white vinegar to remove the water spots?
Just rub/spray on and wipe off, or what?

Re: 2007 Black Corvette
It depends on the severity of the spots. For light spotting, a MF towel soaked in Vinegar and wrung out--so it's damp, but not dripping, will remove the spots for good. For tougher spots, leaving the damp cloth over the spot for several minutes seems to work well. Using vinegar is more tolerable if you like eating the Salt & Vinegar potatoe chips, otherwise, it's kinda funky smelling, lol.

Re: 2007 Black Corvette
Hey Richard, the distilled vinegar tip is a first for me. Didnt know that.
Plus, out of curiosity, since you're going to do paint correction, why use the distilled vinegar tip?
(to take a clearer high mag. picture? )
Thanks
Tim

Re: 2007 Black Corvette
You make a very good point. I used the vinegar for a couple of reasons.
1.) It's easy to use and therefore gives me a thoroughly clean paint surface before correction.
2.) I can use it on all areas including those that I wouldn't be polishing..aka chrome or painted wheels.
Ugh, the customer is going to be here in less than 2 hours---been working all night..still have to do a pass of Amigo, then Epic. Car is looking fantastic though. It's about 98-99% flawless. Still have some stray defects that are too deep to be removed 100%.
I used the LC Orange Pad, Makita Rotary, Prima Swirl for the majority of the paint. Some areas I stepped it up to the LC Yellow Pad with the same combo. I finished it with the LC Orange Pad, PC, and Swirl--to remove holograms.
Next up are LC White, PC, Amigo then LC Black, PC, Epic.

Re: 2007 Black Corvette
We're using it now as we're finishing up the Vette. Cleaning off spots off the chrome wheels and rear view mirrors before using my glass cleaner (Prima Clarity). Also used it to wipe some spots off some trim pieces. You can buy a gallon from the grocery store for cheap!

I see. Thanks for the input. I'm sure the owner's gonna be super pleased with the outcome.
